Support Antique Home Style

Antique Home Style and its sister sites, Mid Century Home Style and Bungalow Home Style, are owned and developed by one passionate old house lover / architectural historian with a little help from a couple part-time assistant/friends. There's a lot of work to do and to continue with the plan, we need your support!

Antique Home Style receives no income except from minimal advertising and occasional donations. Obtaining advertisers takes a lot of work and honestly, that's not what this site is about. We are a library ... a cozy corner of the Web removed from the business of making money ... where readers can look at the images and read the articles our grandparents and great-grandparents read.

As historians, we learn from the past to figure out who we are today. And history is fun!

Making the content freely available — Everything we publish is in the public domain. You can take any image on Antique Home Style and add it to your site. You can take republished articles, whole or in part, and quote them or use them without more attribution needed than the original source. (Our original articles are copyrighted, but we note what is original so you can use it.)

Images on the site are free and easy to use. If you need a larger image or higher resolution, we want to make those available too for a small charge as there is often restoration work involved and we want press quality images when we can get them.

Source material — The books, magazines, pamphlets, brochures and other paper ephemera cost a fair amount of money and these resources are becoming scarcer. [People cut them up for scrapbooking, which they've been doing for decades.] When they are in perfect condition, they may cost hundreds of dollars ... so we work our restorative magic on imperfect copies some of which don't exist anywhere else. Just acquiring and preparing a single image can take from 5 minutes to an hour depending on what type of work is needed.

Staff — Antique Home Style and the other sites should be a full time job for 3–4 people. There is so much material and so many people write with questions, it's hard to stay on top of the work load ... especially if you have to keep a day job! If we could dedicate 2 full-time people we could add new content EVERY DAY! If we could add a part-time programmer, we could add new interactive features.

New Functionality — We've wanted to add a forum for readers to ask questions and exchange information ... maybe even sell or Freecycle house parts that they have no use for, but don't want to toss in the landfill. This is something that can be done quickly and effectively by someone with good programming skills ... but honestly, I can't remember the last time I met a librarian or editor who was particularly talented at programming.

Conducting Reader Surveys — If we had the means, we could do occasional surveys to find out exactly what questions you have and set about answering them. That could lead to even more targeted content and images.

Websites, like gardens, require regular weeding, mowing, and pruning. It's a constant chore list of work to do.

We need your help, but we want to make it simple. Donate $3 or as much as you want ... we don't care ... you're our audience and we publish because we love what we do, but we want you to find value that you can use. Write to us ... let us know what you want to see!

Your payment goes through Paypal to Small Planet Living, which serves as an umbrella organization for the websites.
