The Seahurst

Homes from Forest to You, 1924 by Stetson & Post Lumber, Seattle

The early 1920s were considerably more conservative than the later part of the decade. Middle- and working-class homes designed immediately after WWI were often smaller versions of the grander Colonial Revivals seen in many of the higher end magazines like House Beautiful or Country Life in America. The Seahurst is typical of a popular version that has a wide façade and classical (albeit modest) details, and was published in a kaleidoscope of variations on a theme. This house has just one bedroom. The breakfast room is garanteed to start the day out right. The bedroom closet is designed to store a concealed bed.
