The Fortunate

1916 Sterling system Homes

A common house type is embodied in this plan. The Fortunate is a Plain Jane, an American Vernacular plan in which you can see the Queen Anne shape and the Craftsman ethic of simplicity and harmony. The cornice over the windows is Classical Revival, but the porch columns and balusters are Craftsman style.

It's an elegantly simple plan with good flow between rooms and appropriate access to upstairs, basement, and outdoors. It's a small house to be sure, but it's an efficient small house.
