The Ellison

1936 Sears Roebuck Modern Homes

Like other kit homes offered by Sears Roebuck, the Ellison was sold as a five- and seven-room house. The attic bedrooms were unfinished, which made it affordable to buyers who might otherwise have balked. (It was common to finish the attic as finances permitted.) The Ellison is eclectic and hints at the English and minimal traditional styles, shows a few Colonial cottage characteristics and anticipates the Ranch. The inset dormers, cross-gabled roof, and covered porch offer abundant curb appeal and lots of room for a growing family.
