The tiny Cheney plan at less than 750 square feet is typical of the many small houses offered to first time buyers during the late 1920s. The clipped-gable cottage with its shingled siding and modest entrywas typically just big enough for a young couple or a single person. Often, such small houses would be built at the lake or beach as a summer home. The Cheney's plan with the two bedrooms connected by the bathroom minimize wasted space on unnecessary hallways.
