The exterior of this plan marks this design as a Prairie Box. It has the pyramidal roof and cube-shape of the Foursquare type, but is distinctive for the lower roof line on its second story, which gives it a more horizontal form. Ribbons of windows, especially those on the front, combine with the wide eave and stucco exterior finish to make it very modern. Like many Bowes plans from this period, there is a large, but private, front porch.
