Design B-7489

1918 American Modern Homes by the C. L. Bowes Co.

Shaped something like a New England Salt Box, this two-story plan has plenty of space (though we aren’t sure how Bowes arrived at his stated sizing). Its best features are the upstairs screen porch (shown unscreened) with its shed roof and the large front porch, generous bedrooms, and reasonably sized bathroom. The battered columns and 6-over-1 windows are pleasingly attractive. There are a couple places we'd add windows, but it's an unusual combination and quite charming.
