Design B-7401

1918 American Modern Homes by the C. L. Bowes Co.

This gable-front plan is derived in part from the traditional post-railroad house designs of the 19th century (also referred to as Folk Victorian). The other, more prominent style that is evident is the influence of the Colonial Revival. The façade is strongly symmetrical with a moderately sloped pitch to the roof which gives it a more modern aspect. It’s a simple plan but functional, though we imagine the homemaker would really favor a back porch where the kids could take off their muddy boots before coming in the house. Plan 7157 is somewhat similar.
